Marta Traquino’s research is centred in artistic practices which approach Space and Place in the City, with emphasis on current reconfigurations of Experience, Memory and Identity. In April 2010, her book “The Construction of the Place by Contemporary Art” was published by Humus Editions.
In her artistic practice, Marta Traquino held individual exhibitions of Painting between 1995-2000. Since 2000 she has been doing site-specific installations which work as ‘ephemeral architectures’ that consider the relationship of the individual facing the “permanent architectures” where they are integrated, proposing an attentive perception of pre-existing data in a situation of ‘micro-context’ potentially transferable to a “macro-context”, from a personal to a social dimension. They are possible to conduct through the paths and actions of the visitors/participants, work as mediator devices of a critical attention focused on the movement of the body in space. Among them: “What colour has the sky got now?”, SecondRoom, Brussels, 2010; “Border Crossing – Part II”, Museu de História Natural, Lisbon, 2007; “Between”, 3rceiro Andar no Chiado, Lisbon, 2005; “Inside of the Air”, Museu de História Natural, Lisbon, 2004.
