Rafael Schacter is an anthropologist, writer, and curator from London who has been undertaking research on Independent Public Art for over ten years.

He has co-curated a number of exhibitions around the world including the iconic show Street-Art at the Tate Modern in 2008.

He has two books forthcoming:

The first, entitled The World Atlas of Street Art and Graffiti, is a comprehensive reference text on contemporary Independent Public Art around the globe. It will be available in September 2013 and published by Yale University Press in the US, University of New South Wales Press in Australia, and Aurum Press in the UK.

The second, entitled Ornament & Order: Street Art, Graffiti, and the Parergon, is a monograph based on his doctoral research. An ethnographic analysis of some of the world’s most influential Independent Public Artists, as well as a reformulation of the entire discourse of urban art, the book will be published by Ashgate in February 2014.
